THIS IS
ALEX HOLT
AND SHE’S ABOUT TO SAVE THE DAY
Representative of battery cage conditions
There’s a cage crisis…
Under previous leadership, Alex’s employer Ahold Delhaize promised to phase out inhumane “battery cages” for egg production. But in 2024, those promises were pushed to 2032, eight years past due. What’s up with that?
Alex Holt is the company’s Chief Sustainability Officer and is just the leader this issue needs.
“Some CSOs set goals for 2035.
I prefer Tuesday.”
-Alex Holt (probably)
Just look at Alex’s track record
-
Holt isn’t just another CSO. She’s the sustainability architect behind the transformation at Woolworths, her previous company.
-
Under her leadership, Woolworths won the 2025 Banksia Gold Award, Australia's highest honor for sustainability!
-
Now at Ahold Delhaize, Alex faces a historic opportunity in corporate sustainability. She can lead the company in its long overdue welfare policy.
The Cage-Free Timeline
2016
Ahold Delhaize pledged to go 100% cage-free in its egg supply.
2024
Deadlines are pushed back.
Customers are waiting.
2025
Commitment still unfulfilled. Zero public plans to get it on track.
It’s obvious, battery cages are not sustainable.

Ahold Delhaize customers agree, too.
85% want cage-free policies, rejecting caged hen housing entirely.
Just imagine…
Alex could solve this crisis. She could push the company to develop a transparent, actionable plan to rid the company’s supply chain of such inhumane, archaic practices and move toward more responsible and sustainable practices.
Battery cages can’t possibly be in line with her values. Sure, Alex’s American counterparts might feel a little territorial when she steps in, but let’s be honest, they could use the help.
